Yet the membership of our churches are declining at an alarming rate. So much so that it has become newsworthy!
A second question: Can we address this trend, or should we accept it as inevitable? Can we piously declare that the growth of our congregation is out of our hands because God provides everything?
Allow me to make a statement: Healthy churches are growing churches! The opposite is also true: Unhealthy churches are dwindling churches! Perhaps you do not like these statements because they hold you accountable for the state of your congregation. You can think of so many reasons (excuses) why you cannot be held responsible for the dwindling of your congregation. Perhaps you are correct to some degree. But take some time to think about the above statement: Does it not compel you to self-examination? Does it not challenge you to take a critical look at your congregation and prayfully ask the question: " Are we a healthy congregation?
